\"4-Los-Heroes-por-la-Vida-emocionan-a-Celaya-int1\"Last October 23 at the University of Celaya\u2019s \u2018Nieto Pi\u00f1a\u2019 Auditorium<\/strong>, \u2018Heroes for Life\u2019<\/strong> from several federal states met again to receive the recognition granted by the Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> for organ procurement teams and family members of decease donors<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Francisco Ortiz Aldana<\/strong>, Minister of Health of the State of Guanajuato; Dr. Aburto Salvador Morales<\/strong>, Director of the National Transplant Center; Dr. Martha Aguilar Trejo<\/strong>, Rector of the University of Celaya; Brian Shepard<\/strong>, CEO of United Network for Organ Sharing; and Dr. Roberto Tapia Conyer<\/strong>, General Director of the Carlos Slim Foundation.<\/p>\n

Many people have the enormous joy of seeing their child, parent, sibling or friend healthy and with a new life opportunity, after having received the gift of an organ transplant. The event Heroes for Life<\/strong> has been held since 2012 to recognize the families of donors who are no longer among us. Although there are no enough words of comfort or applause to thank for a donor\u2019s meritorious acts, their strength and love of life are amazing examples that must be recognized.<\/p>\n

The sculpture Heroes for Life<\/strong> is a heart with wings, designed by international artist Romero Britto. The heart is a symbol of the selflessness and joy of donating life. The wings represent the possibility of resuming the flight, meaning that the receiver can resume his life.<\/p>\n

At the event, 21awards were given to health staff involved in organ procurement and transplantation and other 22 to donors or family members of deceased donors.<\/p>\n

Among the main objectives of the Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> are health promotion and prevention, support to transplantation and promotion of a culture of organ donation in the country. It is important to note that these efforts have been achieved by working closely with State Governments, National Institutes of Health, hospitals and civil society.<\/p>\n

After several years of work, the Foundation has provided support to more than 8000 performed transplants. To continue providing that support, an important action was signing a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Health of Guanajuato<\/strong> in June this year. This agreement was established to reinforce the transplantation and organ procurement program in this state. The agreement includes resources support for 40 kidney transplants and 20 procurement events. So far in the State of Guanajuato, the Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> has already supported 30 kidney transplants. In addition each patient has received a support of 30,000 pesos from the Foundation and another equal amount from the state government. Furthermore, the Health Services of Guanajuato<\/strong> committed to carry out actions to strengthen the transplant program.<\/p>\n

“Today we recognize as protagonists of this event, those who sadly departed but still living in our hearts. Despite the profound loss faced, their family members are who consented that others were able to live. These wonderful families are with us today. Thanks you all,\u201d <\/em>said<\/em> Dr. Tapia.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is important to continue to promoting the donation culture. Through the Heroes for Life<\/strong> campaign, we seek to encourage more people to choose being volunteer donors, as it is important to remember that<\/em> “without a donor there is no transplant.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“Working on transplants and create a culture of organ donation is complex and also very satisfactory, particularly in days like today, in which we met with alive examples result of these efforts, as Javier Barron,” <\/em>said Dr. Tapia Conyer when introducing Javier Bar\u00f3n<\/strong>, a small 12-year-old living in Silao.<\/em><\/p>\n

Javier is currently enrolled in the sixth grade and has a normal life, it is a child who likes to sing and play soccer. He wants someday being a doctor or a teacher. At age 11, Javier was diagnosed with renal failure due to renal hypoplasia<\/strong>, which led him to spend a year on peritoneal dialysis. Just when the situation looked very dark for Javier, he finally received a kidney transplant from a Hero for Life<\/strong> on June 27, 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now Javier is very fine, he regained his normal life. He is such well, that he sang the Ode to Joy in the Heroes for Life event, accompanied by mezzo soprano Liliana Medrano Badillo and musicians of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato. After that the orchestra played John Lennon’s Imagine.
