Driver <strong>Gisela Ponce Larrinua<\/strong> gave a lecture to 300 youths: &#8220;<em>Something that Mexico lacks is a real road culture. We don\u2019t have it. We have been doing this type of programs to increase this culture and learn to be responsible behind the wheel in Mexico. How many times we see people running a red light or invading the lane for pedestrians?<\/em>&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ana Laura Chavez Velarde, SEMOV\u2019s General Director of Road Safety, reported that after a year of having started the <strong>Pilot program Drivers for Road Safety<\/strong>, 22 lectures were given in different high schools in and universities, and is expected the number of institutions and conferences double this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Last year 22 conferences were held, this year we want to get to 45. I wish we could increase them a little more. We want to get to undergraduate and graduate levels, because we will do the educational part in core content<\/em>,&#8221; said Chavez Velarde.<\/p>\n<p>She said accidents involving alcohol and driving are the second cause of orphanage and disability. Therefore, this year educational and awareness campaigns will be strengthened in private and government schools, in order to decrease up to 35 percent the number of road accidents.<\/p>\n<p>Gisela Ponce Larrinua said she was pleased to be the spokesperson for helping to raise awareness among young people about risk factors involved in driving a vehicle, especially when people have consumed alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sharing her personal experience as a professional driver, she spoke about security measures to be taken to prevent accidents. She also showed a testimonial video of a young man who suffered a car accident.
