{"id":27053,"date":"2019-12-25T12:00:31","date_gmt":"2019-12-25T18:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/?p=27053"},"modified":"2019-12-30T14:00:59","modified_gmt":"2019-12-30T20:00:59","slug":"blood-molecular-signature-of-the-most-severe-phase-of-cirrhosis-identified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/blood-molecular-signature-of-the-most-severe-phase-of-cirrhosis-identified\/","title":{"rendered":"Blood molecular signature of the most severe phase of cirrhosis identified"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-27103\" src=\"http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/marcadores-sangre-cirrosis.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/marcadores-sangre-cirrosis.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/marcadores-sangre-cirrosis-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.salud.carlosslim.org\/english2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/marcadores-sangre-cirrosis-250x166.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/>A team of researchers from 24 institutions and organizations in nine European countries, coordinated and led by the European Foundation for the Study of Chronic Liver Failure (EFCLIF) in Barcelona,<strong> identified the blood metabolic signature or molecular signature of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, <strong>38 metabolites were identified out of a total of 137 closely related to this liver disease<\/strong>, which is the most serious phase of cirrhosis and the most frequent cause of death in cirrhotic patients.<\/p>\n<p>These <strong>characteristic metabolites in cirrhotic patients with ACLF syndrome are closely related to the deterioration of metabolism<\/strong>; and reflect profound changes in the metabolic pathways of the cell, particularly the inhibition of energy production at mitochondrial level.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>accumulation of these metabolites in blood, in addition to reflecting the inability of the cell to generate sufficient energy in an adequate manner, would contribute to the appearance of intense systemic inflammation and the development of multi-organ failure<\/strong> \u2013characteristic of ACLF syndrome.<\/p>\n<h3>New route to an early diagnosis<\/h3>\n<p>Until now, the <strong>cellular-level mechanisms of the ACLF were poorly explored<\/strong>. A greater or lesser intensity in blood of the presence of the metabolites identified in this study would allow determining the clinical picture of the patient, the degree of severity of this liver disease and a greater precision in its diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, this <strong>study opens the door to the discovery of prognosis markers that would allow an early diagnosis and may contribute to the design of new therapies that prevent multi-organ failure characteristic of ACLF<\/strong> that usually causes the patient&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusions, published in the <em>Journal of Hepatology<\/em>, have also allowed us to determine the stage of development of ACLF syndrome in patients.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong><em>SINC<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of researchers from 24 institutions and organizations in nine European countries, coordinated and led by the European Foundation for the Study of Chronic Liver Failure (EFCLIF) in Barcelona, identified the blood metabolic signature or molecular signature of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
