Carlos Slim Foundation (CSF), represented by Lic. Héctor Slim Seade, signed a Collaboration Agreement with the Ministry of Health of Mexico City to join the Comprehensive Primary Care Model (Modelo de Atención Primaria Integral, MAPI), developed by the Foundation, and the Mexico City’s program, Doctor at Your House (Médico en tú Casa). On the part of the Mexico City, the agreement was signed by Dr. Miguel Ángel Mancera, Head of Government, and Dr. Armando Ahued, Minister of Health of Mexico City.
The alliance of these two highly-complementary and successful programs allows bringing health services directly to the homes of Mexico City, through a systematic scheme and using technological innovations developed by the CSF.
Reaching homes will allow performing a medical check-up to the population in their own dwellings, immediately detecting conditions such as obesity, diabetes and/or hypertension. These programs also cover medical evaluation for pregnant woman, and vaccination status assessment of children under 5 years old. In cases where a person is found at risk of disease or already suffering from it, they will receive immediate attention or referred to the Mexico City’s Health Centers. Initial results have shown that 5% of people who have been assessed at their homes have diabetes and did not know it; and up to 37% resulted hypertensive. Timely providing this information helps people to become aware of their health condition and initiate the treatment before there are serious complications.
This effort join forces to the actions that are regularly carried out at the Doctor at Your House program, mainly in the identification and channeling of the vulnerable population for their care: elderly, terminally ill, people with disabilities, or in a situation of abandonment.
By signing of this agreement, Carlos Slim Fundation puts MAPI’s operation in the hands of the Mexico City’s Health System to provide a comprehensive solution in the improvement of primary health care, and reaffirms its commitment to improve public health so that more people live longer and better.
