embarazoThe Ministry of Health of San Luis Potosi has started the initiative ‘Posadas Amigas de la Mujer Embarazada’ (AME) — Friendly Hospitality for Pregnant Woman. This are spaces located near hospitals; they are capable of resolution and have everything needed, so that all women living in isolated regions of the state can receive specialized medical care throughout their pregnancy, labor and postpartum. In these facilities, patients, their children and family receive food and are given accommodation.

AME are neighboring hospitals where the greatest number of indigenous and the lowest income people in the State are recorded. They have facilities such as kitchen, bathroom, beds, patio/garden living room and laundry. These facilities were created for people in remote rural more than two hours distance, since pregnant women many times require assessment and specialized hospital antenatal care, but is not always necessary to hospitalize them. They also provide children care support to female population who cannot find it in their own communities.

These hospitalities can also be used by women with a near delivery date  (3 days)  that will be cared by traditional midwives, women in labor who do not need a hospital bed, those who need to be specially monitored during postpartum and newborns that had complications at birth.

These establishments allow pregnant women and their companions take a break, enjoy a meal, take a bath and get ready for delivery or next appointment without having to spend a dime.

The Ministry of Health has extended the invitation to all women who have stopped menstruating to go to these facilities and corroborate the condition and initiate immediately the care and attention that health centers for Prenatal Control provide, which include laboratory tests for anemia, urinary tract infection, provision of folic acid and iron, measuring weight and blood pressure measurements, among others.

San Luis Potosi’s hospitalities received a total of 703 pregnant women during 2014.
