The VIII International Pediatrics Course was held on February 4 to 6, organized by the Pediatrics Service at the Angeles Hospital in Puebla, Pediatrics College of the State of Puebla, Mexico Society from Angeles Hospital in Puebla, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
This course is aimed for specialists and subspecialists in pediatrics, general practitioners, residents, nurses, and students, and other people who work in areas related to health. The Organizing Committee designed it to increase and update the medical knowledge of the participants, improving their competence and care of pediatric patients.
The primary objective of having organized this course is the spread of latest pediatric knowledge through selected topics, which are taught by renowned international professors, with any commercial interests.
Carlos Slim Foundation (CSF) was invited to participate in a workshop, called Reengineering Model of the Universal Vaccination Program: Electronic Immunization Records.
CSF, in collaboration with the Rio Arronte Foundation, developed the Electronic Immunization Records (EIR). This system is a cornerstone on the reengineering of the Universal Vaccination Program, because for the first time, it will allow obtaining nominal vaccination census in real time to improve vaccination coverage in the country.
EIR system uses Near Field Communication (NFC), a technology which has been previously used in sectors such as transport. That will allow building the first-ever national database to know coverage and opportunities of vaccines application, among other variables. Furthermore, EIR also allows generating a portable identification and information system for its users.
This system is the first of its kind in Latin America, and the partnership with the Ministry of Health will make it the largest system of nominal immunization registries in the world. So far, in a first stage, EIR is being implemented in five cities; and it will be expanded to the rest of the country in the coming years.
The workshop at the VIII International Pediatrics Course was chaired by Dr. Ingmar Salvador Contreras, a pediatrician at the Angeles Hospital in Puebla, and included the participation of Dr. Roberto Tapia-Conyer, Dr. Miguel Betancourt Cravioto, Dr. Jorge Abelardo Falcon Lezama and Eng. Fernando Rojas Estrella, from the Carlos Slim Foundation.
