A young multidisciplinary team from Veracruz, with the support obtained in the innovation Hub iLab Veracruz, has developed a new technologic platform to digitalize medical information. This platform has free access to patients and is viable for most hospitals.
The platform is called Medical Data Network (MDN). The idea of its creation born when one member of the team realized, after he move to a new residence, did not have his medical record. So, they concluded that a digital tool as MDN may be useful for those people who move from home.
Jose Canseco, entrepreneurial team member noted that one of the great advantages of the platform is that it will be completely free for patients. Also, access is quite simple, since the user only has to register and his doctor or medical institution shall certify that the information given by the patient is correct. Once this is done, from anywhere in the world the user can have the information at hand and show it to the specialist.
The data requested for registration is: name, blood type, allergies, conditions, diseases and contact in case of emergency.
The creators of MDN are launching a pilot application aimed for patients and doctors. This can be used on smartphones with Android and IOS systems and will allow viewing of medical records and a directory of health services.
This digital platform aims patients to own their medical records, giving them possibility to share this information with different health care providers -hospitals, laboratories, insurers and pharmaceutical- without compromising the identity of the person.
Currently, the Civil Hospital of Xalapa is interested in using this innovation. This could solve the problem of medical records duplication, happening in the hospital; which still uses paper to manage patient information.
The creators of this implementation are planning to launch it nationwide and are seeking for advice to venture in international markets.
