10 Analizan mutar mosquito de dengueReynosa, Tamaulipas’s capital city, reported their first case of dengue in 2015. Therefore, the state’s health authorities decided to intensify actions and programs in this region, in order to prevent contagion and hoping the disease does not further spread.

Gloria Leticia Doria Cobos, coordinator at the Epidemiology Department of the Fourth Sanitary Jurisdiction, confirmed to the press that a case of dengue was reported in Reynosa.

The official said that during 2014, 317 dengue cases were confirmed in the region; of these, 264 were diagnosed as typical and 53 as hemorrhagic, positioning this city as the second with highest dengue incidence statewide.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne tropical disease and spraying with insecticides for mosquitoes is the best way to control it. For this reason, Doria Cobos said that the health sector started a plan of spraying homes located in high risk areas from this month

As reported by Doria Cobos, fumigation is intended to eliminate Aedes aegypti breeding sites, the mosquito acting as a vector for disease transmission. These tasks will be also performed in parks, public squares and educational institutions.

Statewide, last year 891 cases were confirmed, 727 of which were classified as classic dengue and 164 as hemorrhagic dengue, she said and added that during 2014, the municipalities most affected by the disease were Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros and Reynosa, so they have redoubled efforts on fumigation, hoping to keep dengue under control.

The coordinator said that with the onset of winter, the mosquito tends to hide in damp locations, including laundries, grass, kitchens and furniture, to protect against low temperatures.

Finally, she encouraged people to join to the actions and programs carried out by the health sector and to keep clean their homes, avoid keeping unnecessary items or items that facilitate the accumulation of stagnant water or moisture, since this facilitate the formation of Aedes aegypti breeding areas.
